What to Bring to Your Senior Portrait Session: 5 Must-Have Essentials
Your senior portrait session is just around the corner! You’ve chosen your date, time, and location — now it’s time to make sure you have everything you need for a smooth, stress-free experience.
If you’re wondering what to bring to your senior portrait session, you’re in the right place. Every client I work with receives a Senior Style Guide packed with helpful tips, including a detailed packing list. But to get you started, here are my top five essentials to bring on the day of your session:
1. Multiple Outfits
Variety is key to capturing different sides of your personality. Plan to bring at least three outfits that give your gallery a mix of styles and moods. A few ideas to consider:
Casual: Something relaxed and comfortable that reflects your everyday look.
Dressy: A more polished outfit — perfect for timeless portraits that might end up in the yearbook or framed on the wall.
Personal Favorite: That outfit you absolutely love and feel confident in, whether it’s trendy or uniquely “you.”
School Spirit: Think letterman jacket, uniform, or your favorite hoodie with your school logo. Add accessories like pom-poms or a graduation cap for a personal touch.
Pro Tip: Iron or steam your clothes beforehand and bring them on hangers to keep them wrinkle-free.
2. Accessories
Accessories and props add personality and variety to your photos — helping tell your story in a way that feels authentic and unique. Consider bringing:
Jewelry: Simple pieces like necklaces, earrings, or bracelets that complement your outfits.
Props: Items that showcase your interests — your instrument, sports gear, favorite book, or even your pet if it’s allowed!
Bouquet of Flowers: A fresh bouquet can be a beautiful, timeless addition to your photos. Flowers add color, texture, and a soft, elegant touch — perfect for spring or summer sessions.
Shoes: Bring the right pair for each outfit. It’s amazing how much the right footwear completes the look.
3. Touch-Up Kit
Outdoor sessions (especially in the South!) can get warm, windy, or humid. A small touch-up kit can keep you looking and feeling your best. Include:
Makeup essentials: Foundation, powder, lipstick, or gloss for quick refreshes.
Hair products: Brush or comb, hairspray, gel, or bobby pins.
Other must-haves: Tissues, blotting papers, and a compact mirror for quick checks between shots.
4. Water and Snacks
Staying hydrated and energized helps you look your best. Bring a bottle of water and light snacks like granola bars, fruit, or trail mix — especially for sessions that last an hour or more. No one wants to model on an empty stomach!
5. Positive Attitude and Confidence
This one might be the most important thing you bring! A great attitude and genuine confidence make all the difference in your photos. Trust your photographer, relax, and enjoy the experience — this is your moment to shine.

Preparation helps everything go smoothly, but remember — senior portraits are meant to be fun and to celebrate you. Pack your essentials, show up with a smile, and let’s create images you’ll love for years to come.
